KUALA LUMPUR: The government, as part of its commitment to strengthening security along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border, is considering building a new post in Long Singut, Kapit.
In its news report, TVS stated that Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari highlighted the government’s current priority of enhancing border control infrastructure, especially in Sarawak and Sabah.
“Indeed, within our plans for this year and the coming years, the upgrading of posts along the Kalimantan border is being intensified.
“I myself have visited several border posts to assess the situation on the ground,” he said during the oral question session in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday in response to a question from Edwin Banta (GPS-Selangau) regarding the proposal to build a control post in the area.
Meanwhile, Adly acknowledged that the main challenge faced is logistical factors, including the difficulty for contractors to carry out construction work in remote areas.
“There are several posts that are truly located in the interior, making the development of control infrastructure there quite difficult.
“Nevertheless, the government remains committed to ensuring that new posts can be developed in order to strengthen border security with Kalimantan,” he said.
He added that this step is important in curbing cross-border activities that could threaten national security.
