PMU students show commitment to caring for the environment

DEP Production team from PMU emerged as the champion in the Short Video Competition organised by the Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE) in conjunction with the Community Awareness Programme on Open Burning and Peatland Fire Monitoring.

MUKAH: Politeknik Mukah (PMU) has achieved outstanding success after emerging champion in the Short Video Competition organised by the Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE) in conjunction with the Community Awareness Programme on Open Burning and Peatland Fire Monitoring.

The winning team, DEP Production, comprised of Muhammad Nur Faizzuddin Hakimi Ibrahim Abdullah and Muhammad Haziq Hazim Abdullah.

Second place went to the group Seventh, followed by Sahabat Alam in third place, while two consolation prizes were awarded to PMU Incinerator Filter and BTC Squad PMU.

All the participants were students from PMU’s Department of Electrical Engineering (JKE) and Department of Civil Engineering (JKA).’

Throughout the programme, students also took part in exhibitions and demonstrations, including fire safety demonstrations by the Fire and Rescue Department, monitoring equipment displays by DOE, as well as talks on peatland fire prevention infrastructure, fire control, the prohibition of open burning, and the health impacts of haze.

The initiative aligns with PMU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

PMU extended its appreciation to DOE Sarawak and its collaborating partners for making the programme a success.

The institution also reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness to ending open burning, protecting peatland, and preserving air quality for the well-being of communities in Mukah.
