SIBU: More than 5,000 participants, comprising about 50 contingents, are expected to join the Sibu Divisional Level Maulidul Rasul Celebration 1447H/2025M on September 6.
The ceremony, themed ‘Ummah Maju Makmur’, will be held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here starting at 6:30 am.
Sibu Divisional Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, said that this year’s celebration aims to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW as well as being a platform to foster the spirit of unity among the diverse communities here.
He was speaking to the media during a press conference held at Kingwood Hotel here on Friday.
“I call on all Sibu residents to join in enlivening the Maulidul Rasul Celebration this year.
“Let us make this celebration a platform to strengthen brotherhood, express our love for the great prophet Prophet Muhammad SAW, as well as strengthen unity among the community regardless of religion, race and political affiliation,” he added.
The event hosted by the Sibu Division Islamic Celebration Standing Committee will be graced by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
Abang Mohamad said the event’s highlight will be the 3.2-kilometre procession that will start and end at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang.
“The procession route will pass through Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Tukang Besi, Jalan Central and Jalan Kampung Nyabor.
“Various competitions will be held to enliven the celebration, including banner, parade, largest contingent, and the Fashion Charm (various outfits).
“A total prize worth RM18,000 along with 48 trophies and four hampers await the winners,” he said.
Participation for the competition is open to seven categories, including institutions of learning, schools, uniformed bodies, government departments, mosques, associations, and private companies.
“To further invigorate the spirit of unity, special invitations are also given to Iban, Chinese, Indian, Orang Ulu and Punan associations throughout Sibu Division,” he said.
Apart from the parade, spiritual enrichment programmes are also being organised, including 12 series of Maulidul Rasul talks at selected mosques and suraus around Sibu.
