Boy missing, slippers found near tributary

PADAWAN: A six-year-old boy with autism has been reported missing after he is believed to have left his home at Jalan Kim Chu Sin, Batu Kawa yesterday (Aug 24).

The child, identified as Enrique Bong Kai Cen, was last seen around 4.15 pm wearing a collarless T-shirt with a sun emblem, brown shorts, and slippers.

The victim’s family had reportedly discovered one of the boy’s slippers about 10 metres from their home and the other roughly 30 metres away near a tributary at Kampung Kim Chu Sin after searching the area themselves.

Padawan police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi confirmed that a missing person’s report was filed at Batu Kawa Police Station at 6.17 pm.

“Anyone with information on Enrique’s whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer at Padawan IPD, Sergeant Alex Daniel Jita, at 011-18816338, the Padawan IPD Operations Room at 082-862233, or the nearest police station,” he said.

Meanwhile, a search and rescue (SAR) operation is being carried out by firefighters from Batu Lintang station, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said rescuers have combed nearby areas, streams, and orchard land, but no leads have been found so far.

Police have also deployed a K9 unit and a drone team to facilitate the search for the missing boy.

At the time of writing, the search is still ongoing.

Authorities are also appealing to residents in the surrounding areas to report any sightings or information of the victim.
