BAU: Two men’s alleged involvement with drugs came to light after police stopped them in separate operations across town, leading to a drug seizure and positive screening results.
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said police seized a plastic packet containing suspected syabu valued around RM30.
He added that the arrests were carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) with assistance from personnel of the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.
“The first operation was conducted along the roadside of Kampung Seromah, where officers detained a 39-year-old labourer.
“A search allegedly uncovered a small plastic packet containing 0.31g of suspected syabu.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs,” he said.
Meanwhile, a separate operation near Kampung Serikin saw police detaining a 28-year-old labourer suspected of drug abuse.
Initial urine screening tests conducted on both suspects returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, resulting in their arrest under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Mohd Haide said both men admitted to abusing syabu earlier on the same day before their arrests.
Background checks found that the 28-year-old suspect had a prior record for a drug-related offence, while the older suspect had no prior record.
Both suspects are being held at the Bau police lock-up pending further investigation.
