KUCHING: Sarawakian professional boxer Daeloniel “Kilat Boy” McDelon Bong is set for the biggest fight of his career this Saturday (Aug 30), when he steps into the ring against Thailand’s Natthawat for the WBC Asia Continental Super Bantamweight Title.

The 26-year-old fighter, who has steadily climbed the Asian circuit, sees this bout as a crucial stepping stone toward his ultimate dream of a shot at the world title.

“After this weekend (Aug 30), we’ll see how things go. If I achieve success, then insyaAllah, I’ll plan the next step and line up the next fight.

“My ultimate target is, of course, to go for the world title but it has to be step by step,” said Kilat Boy during the Twins Championship 2025 press conference at SMG, Cityone, on Monday (Aug 25).

A win on Saturday would see him hold three Asian titles. The next target, he revealed, would be the WBC Gold belt, a launchpad toward the global stage.

To make that dream a reality, Kilat Boy pointed out the importance of support, expressing gratitude to his sponsors and backers, including the Sarawak government, Rentap Gym, TVS, and many others.

Often describing himself as an underdog in the boxing scene, Kilat Boy said the backing from his sponsors and community has given him fresh motivation heading into Saturday’s title fight.

Meanwhile, Twin Championship chief executive officer (CEO) Mohd Fitri Omar confirmed that the promotion has set ambitious plans for its Sarawak-born fighters.

“Our next step is for (Kilat Boy) to challenge for the WBC Asia Continental title.

“We don’t want to let him rest for too long, so we are looking at him taking on the WBC Gold next year.

“As for Kilat Boy, the goal is clear, to prepare him for the world championship within the next year or two. As a promoter, I really want to see one of our boxers make it to the world stage, insyaAllah,” he said.
