SIBU: The Ninth Infantry Brigade of the Malaysian army has dismissed claims linking it to a bogus letter seeking RM10,000 for a Sarawak-level Merdeka Day banquet, calling it a blatant attempt at fraud.
The brigade shared that it had received four reports about the letter, which requested funds for an event allegedly set to take place at Dewan Suarah Sarikei.
Tthe letter carried the name and details of “Staff Sergeant Muhammad Fauzi bin Tengku Ibrahim, Rejimen 510 Askar Wataniah, Kem Sri Rejang.”
Checks found that the letter was addressed to the Ministry of Defence’s Financial Unit director in Kuala Lumpur.
Investigations are underway to track down the person behind this fraudulent letter.
Following this, the brigade has urged anyone who received the letter to immediately contact the Ninth Infantry Brigade headquarters and file a police report.
These steps are vital to curb the growing threat of scams and to safeguard the integrity of the Malaysian army and other public agencies.
