Lorry driver injured, father and son safe in collision

BINTULU: A local man sustained injuries to his arm and face in a two-vehicle collision at the BMC traffic light junction here today.

The accident, involving a Perodua Bezza carrying a 38-year-old man and his seven-year-old son, and a concrete-laden lorry driven by a 30-year-old man, occurred around 1:00 pm.

The impact caused both vehicles to crash into roadside trees; fortunately none of the victims were trapped inside.

Firefighters from Bintulu station were alerted to the scene, about four kilometres away, following an emergency call.

The team assisted the lorry driver out of the vehicle before handing him over to paramedics for initial treatment.

The victim was later taken to the hospital for further care.

Meanwhile, the Bezza driver and his son were rescued by concerned passers-by prior to the responders’ arrival.

The boy escaped injuries, while the father only complained of chest pain.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the firefighters ended the operation at 1:26 pm.
