KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced two men to 10 months in prison each for breaking into a catering services company’s office last month.
Mohamad Farizull Sofian, 22, and Adzrul Zulkarnain Ariffin, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to a joint charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
The offence was committed at the company’s premises located at Green Heights Commercial Centre at around 6 am on Aug 21.
Based on the case facts, an office employee discovered the ceiling had been broken. He later went to the ground floor of the office and found the padlock of the metal gate cut.
As the complainant went upstairs, he saw two men coming down the staircase. With the help of two colleagues, the complainant managed to apprehend the duo before handing them over to police.
Investigations found the men had broken into the office by damaging the padlock latch and attempting to gain entry through the broken ceiling. Tools used in the break-in were also seized.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Adriana Maisarah Mohd Farid prosecuted the case, while both men appeared without counsel.
