KABONG: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a fisherman, who went missing with his father after their boat capsized off Kabong waters, has been officially called off after seven days of intensive search.
Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis’ Director Cmdr Mahkos Juing, said the operation ended on Wednesday evening after no further leads were found.
“The search for the second victim, identified as 24-year-old Mohd Aiman Tuah, will now continue through routine patrols by MMEA assets,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Aiman’s father, 57-year-old Tuah Bujang, was found last Saturday by local fishermen about 0.3 nautical miles from the site of the mishap.
His body was later handed over to the police and sent to Saratok Hospital for further action.
Mahkos urged the local community to remain alert and to immediately inform the nearest MMEA operation centre if they come across any signs or suspicious objects at sea near the incident area.
On September 3, the two were reported missing after going fishing off Kabong waters.
Their boat was later found adrift by villagers the following morning, about 5.5 nautical miles from shore, but both men were missing.
The SAR operation involved the Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, Police Air Unit, People’s Volunteer Corps, and local villagers.
