KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 12-year-old was found dead after a crocodile attack while fishing near Kampung Empila this morning.
The victim, identified as Arif Fahmi Aiman Mohd Tinggal, went missing while casting a net from a boat.
A witness recalled hearing the boy scream and, upon turning around, saw that he had vanished from sight.
An immediate search was carried out before the authorities were alerted at around 7.50 am.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the boy’s body was discovered around 9.50 am, about 10 metres from where he was last seen.
He had suffered severe injuries to his torso and chest due to crocodile bites.
Firefighters from Kota Samarahan station were dispatched to the scene to recover the body and brought it to Kampung Niup jetty.
The body was later handed over to the police to be transported to hospital for a post-mortem.
Following the discovery, the search ended at 10.15 am.
