SARIKEI: An elderly woman was killed in an accident along KM1, Jalan Repok, today (Sept 23).
The victim, identified as Li Kuai Song, 78, was reportedly on her way to Sarikei Market to conduct business when the accident occurred at 5.15 am.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said preliminary investigations found that the car, which was travelling from the market towards Jalan Repok, suddenly swerved into the opposite lane.
“The vehicle collided head-on with the victim’s motorcycle, causing severe damage to the front of the machine.
“Paramedics from Sarikei Hospital confirmed her death at the scene at 5.50 am,” he said.
Aswandy added that the driver fled the scene after the crash, based on information from eyewitnesses.
The accident is believed to have been caused by the driver’s negligence, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
