SIBURAN: Two double-storey houses and two vehicles were destroyed in a fire at Taman Indah Landeh here yesterday (Sept 24).

The blaze, which broke out at 6.40 pm, quickly spread through the residential area, but residents managed to evacuate to safety before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from Siburan, Kota Sentosa and Batu Lintang stations were deployed to the scene, about 25km from away, after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found two houses, a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Persona already engulfed in flames and beyond saving.

They drew water from a nearby hydrant to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Their swift action managed to save two other houses, which sustained only water damage, about 20 per cent to the ceilings. A Proton Exora parked nearby was also spared, sustaining just 10 per cent fire damage.

The flames were brought under control at 8.23 pm. The team ended the operation at 9.10 pm.

Police, Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sesco) personnel and Simpok auxiliary firefighters assisted in the operation.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
