KABONG: Police arrested two men in connection with a housebreaking and theft case at Kampung Gerigat here on Sept 25, which resulted in losses amounting to RM2,499.

Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggis said the 43-year-old complainant who lodged a police report discovered the incident at 6 am when his stepsister realised their house had been broken into and noticed her mobile phone missing.

He said further checks found that another mobile phone and RM700 in cash were also stolen.

“Acting on information, a police team arrested the two suspects, aged 24 and 36, at an unfinished house in Kampung Gerigat at 2.30 pm the same day,” he said in a statement.

Subsequent investigation led to the recovery of two stolen mobile phones at one of the suspect’s house, hidden inside a sling bag in his bedroom.

Mathew said the suspects admitted to breaking into the house by entering through the back window and stealing the mobile phones and the cash.

“Both suspects also tested positive for drugs during a urine screening carried out by the Narcotics Unit,” he added.

Checks revealed that the younger suspect had nine previous criminal records, while the other had none.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
