SEOUL: The Sarawak Biodiversity Council (SBC) and its subsidiary, BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd (BVT), have initiated talks with Kolmar R&D Complex in South Korea, a move that could pave the way for global collaborations in the natural ingredients supply chain.
According to a statement, the engagement highlights Sarawak’s ambition to harness its rich biodiversity for the development of high-value products in cosmetics, personal care, health-functional foods, and pharmaceuticals.
Kolmar is a global leader in Original Development and Manufacturing (ODM), serving over 22,000 companies worldwide, with annual revenue of USD2.38 billion (RM11.19 billion).
The company employs approximately 1,300 personnel, with nearly a third dedicated to research and development.
Renowned for its technological innovation and sustainable practices, Kolmar holds more than 9,700 intellectual property rights and provides end-to-end solutions, from product formulation and manufacturing to regulatory support.
Its global client portfolio includes leading names such as Amorepacific, L’Oréal, Sephora, and Olive Young.
The discussions with SBC focused on advanced R&D methodologies, innovative manufacturing processes, and strategies to scale up the use of natural ingredients.
The exchange is seen as a crucial step in strengthening Sarawak’s efforts to transform its biodiversity into commercially viable products, while upholding ethical sourcing and ensuring benefit-sharing with indigenous communities.
