BAU: A local man was taken into custody for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine along Jalan Sebuku yesterday (Oct 4).
The arrest was made at around 6.30pm when a narcotics police team stopped the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, for inspections.
Further checks led to the discovery of nine plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 15.19g, in his pockets.
The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession.
Upon conviction, he could face up to five years imprisonment and up to nine whippings.
He will also be probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after being tested positive for drugs.
If convicted, the offence provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
