KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomed the RM6-billion allocation for Sarawak under Malaysia Budget 2026, describing it as a boost for the State’s economic development.
He said the federal unity government’s decision to provide the increased allocation reflected stronger ties with Sarawak and the shared goal of strengthening the country’s economic direction.
“I would like to express my highest appreciation to the federal unity government for the RM6-billion allocation in the coming budget.
“This will certainly strengthen relations between the federal and Sarawak governments, while reinforcing the direction of the nation’s economic development, particularly for the State,” he said.
Abang Johari said this in his address during the parade held in conjunction with the 79th official birthday of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, at Padang Merdeka here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday unveiled Malaysia’s largest ever budget of RM470 billion, which included RM6 billion for Sarawak, an increase from RM2.9 billion in 2022.
The special grant for Sarawak was also doubled to RM600 million from RM300 million in 2023, with allocations covering basic infrastructure, uninterrupted power supply, and long-term development projects.
“In line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the MADANI government is determined to accelerate development in Sabah and Sarawak.
“The allocation for Sabah has increased to RM6.9 billion compared to RM4.4 billion in 2022, while Sarawak will receive RM6 billion compared to only RM2.9 billion in 2022,” he said when tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat, Kuala Lumpur.
