BAU: Police arrested three men for drug-related offences during a crime prevention patrol here on Friday.

Bau District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said first arrest took place in Kampung Stass, where a 44-year-old local man was detained for possessing eight transparent plastic packets of various sizes containing dangerous drugs, with a total gross weight of about 5.48 grammes.

“The suspect also tested positive for drugs following an initial urine screening,” he said in a statement.

Haide further said the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If convicted, the offender faces imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years, and between three and nine strokes of the cane,” he said in a statement today.

Haide said the second operation took place in Kampung Sebobok, where two local men aged between 41 and 45 were arrested after both tested positive for drugs during preliminary urine tests.

“All suspects who tested positive are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Earlier, the patrol was conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division together with the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division of Bau District Police Headquarters between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.
