KUCHING: A fire broke out at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) this evening, damaging the Bidayuh Longhouse within the popular site.

The incident occurred at 7:30 pm, prompting an immediate response from personnel from the Petra Jaya, Tabuan Jaya, and Padungan Fire and Rescue stations.

In a statement, SCV said the blaze was successfully brought under control and that no injuries or casualties were reported.

“We wish to emphasise that the Bidayuh Longhouse was the only structure affected by the fire. All other cultural houses and facilities within the Sarawak Cultural Village remain intact and unaffected,” SCV said in a Facebook post tonight.

SCV further said immediate investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, adding that the safety and preservation of Sarawak’s cultural heritage remain their top priority.

The management also assured that the village will remain open to visitors, with temporary access restrictions in place around the affected area to ensure safety and facilitate recovery efforts.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the fire and rescue teams for their prompt response and professionalism,” SCV said.
