MIRI: Eight men were detained after testing positive for methamphetamine during a late-night police operation targeting entertainment outlets in the city recently.
The raids, led by Insp. Stiffan Lawler Ateng from the Miri District Police Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, were conducted between 12:30 am and 2:40 am at two separate entertainment premises around Miri City centre.
During the operation, police screened 32 men and seven women. All were taken to the district police headquarters for urine tests.
Preliminary results showed that eight local men tested positive for methamphetamine. They were subsequently arrested and placed in custody at the Miri Central Police Station lock-up for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The police reminded the public, especially young people, to stay away from drug abuse, reiterating that drugs remain the country’s number one enemy.
