SIBU: The construction of a new parking space at Rumah Thomas Paulus longhouse in Sebedil, Matu Daro has been completed.

The completed project was officially handed over on Monday (Oct 13) to Tuai Rumah Thomas and the committee, witnessed by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch team.

The upgrading started in mid-June this year and was completed through the cooperation of all parties.

SUPP Bawang Assan branch chairman Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie said his team visited the longhouse last year for an inspection and had engaged engineers from the relevant department to conduct a study and planning.

He said Tuai Rumah Thomas had highlighted the parking shortage faced by residents.

Due to the limited space, residents were forced to double-park, causing traffic congestion and raising safety concerns.

“We are very pleased that this project could be successfully implemented with the support of a special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund approved by the Premier.

“The entire project was executed under the supervision of the Matu Daro District Council, and thanks to the collective effort and cooperation of everyone involved, it has now been successfully completed,” Lau said.

He noted that the completion of the parking lot not only helps ease the problem but will also improve traffic flow.

“We will continue to pay close attention to community infrastructure needs, actively strive for more people-benefiting projects, and work towards creating a safer and more convenient living environment for residents,” Lau, who is also SUPP Central Youth chief, added.
