Motorists urged to plan ahead as roads set to close for Sarawak Regatta

KUCHING: Several roads in the city centre are set to be closed in stages for the upcoming Sarawak Regatta and Kuching Waterfront Festival 2025 from Oct 24 to Nov 2.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the road closures are necessary to ensure smooth traffic flow and preparations throughout the event at Kuching Waterfront.

“For the installation and dismantling of tents as well as event setups, the stretch from Jalan Gambier to Jalan Main Bazaar will be closed from 12.01 am on Oct 15 until midnight on Nov 5.

“For the opening ceremony on Oct 25, roads from Lebuh Wayang to Jalan Main Bazaar, Lebuh Temple to Lebuh Wayang, St Mary traffic light junction leading to Lebuh Wayang, and Jalan Pearl junction heading towards Jalan Wawasan, will be temporarily closed from 6 am to 12 pm.

“Meanwhile, the closing ceremony on Nov 2 will see closures from 7 am to 6pm at Lebuh Wayang to Jalan Main Bazaar, Temple to Lebuh Wayang, St Mary traffic light junction to Lebuh Wayang, and Jalan Pearl junction heading to Jalan Wawasan,” he said.

Alexson urged members of the public to avoid parking along the affected roads, plan their journeys in advance, and use alternative routes to reduce congestion.
