KUCHING: Police have arrested a 32-year-old local man suspected of involvement in criminal intimidation and vehicle mischief that occurred at the Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho junction here on Thursday (Oct 16).

Kuching District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said acting on information, the suspect was nabbed at 11.50 pm on the same day at a parking space along Jalan Keranji, Tabuan Desa.

“Earlier, a 47-year-old man lodged a police report after his vehicle, a Proton Juara, was cut off and blocked by a Datsun vehicle at 8.16 am.

“The suspect got out of his vehicle in an angry manner and attempted to open the complainant’s car door but failed.

“He then threw an iron pipe at the complainant’s car and shouted for him to get out,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The incident went viral on social media on Thursday.

Alexson further said initial checks revealed the suspect had seven prior criminal records involving theft and gambling.

“His urine test, however, came back negative,” he said, while adding that the Kuching Court approved a four-day remand order starting yesterday (Oct 17) to facilitate investigation.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 427 for committing mischief, both of which carried imprisonment of up to two years or a fine.

The police also urged the public to remain calm and courteous on the road and not to take matters into their own hands.

Meanwhile, those with information on the incident are urged to contact the Kuching District Police Control Centre at 082-244444 or Investigating Officer Sgt Maj Muhammad Shukor Eman at 017-4872632.
