KUCHING: The successful completion of the Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 open space upgrade stands as a testament to the strong collaboration between the federal government and the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) in creating greener, more inclusive urban spaces for the people of Kuching.
The project, carried out under the ‘Pembangunan Landskap Persekitaran Kehidupan’ programme, was funded by the Department of Landscape Malaysia (JLN) under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

The project started on June 11, 2025, and was completed within schedule on October 1, 2025.
In just a few months, the open space was transformed into a beautiful, welcoming, safe, and lively park that serves residents of all ages.
Among the new features are a walkway with proper drainage, children’s playset, outdoor fitness equipment, gazebo, concrete table tennis table, hopscotch game, solar-powered lights, and newly planted trees and greenery.
MBKS Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, said these new features make the area safer, greener and more comfortable for people of all ages.
“The park now provides a space where children can play, adults can exercise, and senior citizens can walk, rest and enjoy the outdoors,” he said in his address yesterday.
Wee commended SHUMS Enterprise, the appointed contractor, for completing the works on time and with quality workmanship.
Additionally, Wee said the upgraded park represents the council’s continuous effort to create open spaces that foster healthy, active, and inclusive living.
“It also supports our journey toward becoming both a child-friendly city and an age-friendly city, where children, adults and senior citizens can share the same space safely and comfortably.
“It also aligns with the goals of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, especially under Social Inclusivity and Environmental Sustainability, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action,” he said.
Together, he said these goals remind us to build a city that promotes health, happiness and care for both people and the environment – not only for today, but for future generations.
Additionally, Wee extended its appreciation to the Department of Landscape Malaysia and KPKT for their trust, support and funding, as well as to the local community for their patience and cooperation throughout the upgrading period.
“I also thank the local community for their patience and cooperation during the upgrading period.
“As we move forward, MBKS will continue to work closely with our partners and residents to improve more public parks and open spaces making Kuching South a city that cares, where every park and open area brings well-being, unity and joy to all,” he said.
