SIBU: A local woman sustained serious facial injuries after the vehicle she was in rammed into a stationary lorry near Dudong Roundabout, Jalan Durin, late Saturday night.
The accident happened at around 10:45 pm when a Mitsubishi Triton carrying two individuals crashed into the rear of a 15-tonne lorry, laden with oil palm fruits, that had been parked by the roadside due to a breakdown.
The impact left the 31-year-old woman trapped in the front passenger seat, while her 33-year-old male driver managed to exit the wreckage on his own.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said firefighters from Sibu Jaya station were deployed to the scene, about 7 km away, following a distress call.

“Upon arrival, the team confirmed the trapped victim in the vehicle and used hydraulic rescue tools to free the woman.
“Once extricated, the victim, who sustained serious injuries to her face, was handed over to paramedics for initial treatment before being rushed to the hospital for immediate care,” he said.
Andy stated that the Triton driver escaped with minor injuries, while the lorry driver was unharmed.
Firefighters later conducted flushing works to clear the road of debris and oil spillage before concluding the operation at 2 am.
