KUCHING: Three key projects by Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) are set to drive economic growth, transform the development landscape, and uplift local communities, said Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib.
Among the ongoing projects, he said, is the RM673 million Mambong Clinker Line 2, which will double annual production capacity from 900,000 tonnes to 1.9 million metric tonnes.
“Advanced technology and enhanced operational efficiency will ensure that this facility maintains a lower carbon footprint,” he said in his speech
at the CMS Media Appreciation Dinner at Hilton Kuching on Monday.
“Construction work on the project has commenced and is expected to be fully completed by mid-2027,” he added.
Sulaiman also highlighted the RM550 million Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK 2) project, which he said will strengthen Kuching’s capacity to host major conferences, expos, and large-scale gatherings.
He further noted that the media had recently covered the connection of electricity supply to the Cahya Mata Phosphates Plant last month, enabling testing and commissioning works before full commercialisation.
“This plant is the first phosphate facility in the region to utilise renewable energy as its primary source, and it is capable of producing yellow phosphorus, technical-grade phosphoric acid, and food-grade phosphoric acid (FGA) with a purity level of 99.9 per cent,” he said.
“These three projects are expected to have a significant positive impact on Sarawak’s economic landscape while also benefiting surrounding communities,” he added.
Sulaiman said the projects reflect CMS’s continued commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all operations, businesses, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
He also expressed appreciation to the media for its continued support in highlighting CMS’s development initiatives.
“Your presence tonight reflects the long-standing strategic relationship between the media and Cahya Mata, which has enabled us to convey important information to the public and our stakeholders,” he said.
He described the media as a trusted voice of society and “a key driver in promoting cultural, social, and corporate transformation in a nation.”
“Without the support of the media in highlighting our efforts, many of our projects and activities would not be known to the public,” he added.
