KUCHING: A 21-year-old man with several past criminal records was sentenced to five years in prison by the Sessions Court here today for possessing a chicken spur weapon in a public place without reasonable excuse.
Maxson Nyopub pleaded guilty before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid to a charge under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
He was found to have committed the offence at a village in Bau at 3:50 pm on October 27.
Upon arrest, police discovered a chicken spur in his possession, along with a motorcycle that was seized for further investigation.
The case stemmed from a police report lodged on August 12 by a man who claimed that his motorcycle had been stolen from the front parking lot of a 24-hour convenience store in Siniawan.

Investigations revealed that the accused had no reasonable excuse for possessing the sharp weapon in a public area and was believed to have several prior theft-related records.
When questioned, Maxson told police he used the chicken spur to open cars.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar, handled the prosecution case, while the accused was unrepresented.
