KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 96 companies are expected to be recognised as smart factories by year-end, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said in a parliamentary reply on Tuesday.
The target is based on progress under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), which began two years ago. MITI noted that the Smart Tech-Up Programme, launched in December 2024, has been key to the transition toward automation and digitalised production.
“As of Oct 24, 2025, 21 factories have been certified as smart, while 71 of 196 registered companies are in various stages of transformation,” MITI said. The first cohort aims for at least 40 firms to be fully certified by the third quarter of 2026. – BERNAMA
