KUCHING: ISSUP Malaysia held its first Executive Committee meeting of 2025, outlining strategic priorities to strengthen governance and expand national capacity building.

The meeting set a firm direction for youth engagement, research-driven prevention efforts, and nationwide programme expansion, including dedicated initiatives for Sabah and Sarawak.

A key decision from the meeting was the introduction of the ISSUP Malaysia Code of Conduct, established to ensure professional integrity, appropriate representation at external events, and stronger alignment with ISSUP’s international standards.

The new code is expected to enhance organisational credibility as ISSUP Malaysia scales its activities nationwide.

“Under its 2026 Work Plan, ISSUP Malaysia will broaden family-based prevention programmes, reinforce school mental health initiatives, and increase training opportunities for prevention and recovery professionals, particularly in East Malaysia where demand for specialised support continues to grow,” said director Cindy Biding.

“Sarawak and Sabah remain key regions in our 2026 strategy. We are committed to working closely with state agencies, CSOs, and universities to strengthen evidence-based programmes and professional development.”

The meeting also confirmed the establishment of a dedicated ISSUP Malaysia bank account to better support fundraising, grant management, and nationwide expansion efforts.

“This step aims to streamline organisational processes and enhance long-term sustainability,” Cindy added.

ISSUP Malaysia continues to strengthen its role as a national leader in substance use prevention and professional development, advancing evidence-based practices and capacity building alongside government agencies, civil society, and research institutions.
