KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) reminds property owners, tenants and prospective buyers about the importance of managing electricity accounts responsibly and understanding related obligations, particularly in relation to tenancy arrangements and property purchases.

In a statement issued today (Nov 18), SEB said that property owners who lease out their premises are encouraged to ensure that electricity accounts are properly managed and account holder information is kept up-to-date.

“Preparing clear tenancy agreements, ideally with guidance from qualified legal professionals, can help prevent misunderstandings and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

“It is also strongly recommended for property owners to encourage tenants to register electricity accounts in their own names, which helps establish clear responsibilities for electricity usage and reduces potential disputes or liabilities.

“To assist with monitoring, property owners can register the tenant’s account number and full name on SEB cares mobile app, allowing them to track payments and outstanding balances conveniently,” it said.

It added that regular monitoring of electricity usage and meter readings helps detect irregularities early, ensuring uninterrupted service and accurate billing.

“Prospective buyers and bidders are also encouraged to carefully review the Proclamation of Sale and Conditions of Sale before participating in property auctions.

“These documents provide details of any existing liabilities, including outstanding electricity bills or other utility charges.

“Inspecting the property in person and verifying the status of electricity accounts helps ensure a smooth and informed purchase process,” it added.

Sarawak Energy reaffirmed its commitment to fair and transparent electricity supply processes.
