KUCHING: Batik Air will strengthen Sarawak’s air links with Sabah through the introduction of a new direct Kota Kinabalu-Kuching (BKI-KCH) service, beginning Dec 15.

Operating seven times weekly, the route is expected to significantly improve mobility between the two Borneo regions and support rising demand for seamless intra-Sabah-Sarawak travel.

The airline said the addition of this direct connection would enhance access to Sarawak’s capital, long recognised for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant food scene and growing business appeal.

The increased connectivity is also anticipated to drive higher visitor arrivals as Malaysia gears up for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).

The new KK-Kuching service is introduced alongside a direct Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan (BKI-SDK) route, also operating seven times weekly, as part of Batik Air’s broader effort to expand accessibility across East Malaysia.

Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline remains committed to strengthening Sabah–Sarawak travel links, with Kota Kinabalu positioned as a key regional hub for northern Borneo.

“We are delighted to introduce these new direct flights, which reflect our commitment to supporting Sabah and Sarawak’s growing travel needs.

“Strengthening connectivity within Borneo is a priority, and Kota Kinabalu, as a regional operating hub in East Malaysia, creates easier access between important destinations while enhancing convenience for our guests,” he said.

He added that a more comprehensive East Malaysia network would contribute to long-term economic growth, business opportunities and tourism development across both states.

In line with its expansion, Batik Air has also extended its ‘Family Vacay Starts at Borneo’ campaign, offering promotional all-in fares from as low as RM69 to various cities in Sabah and Sarawak.

The offer is available for bookings until Nov 30, for travel up to Jan 30, 2026.

Looking ahead, Batik Air will introduce a new Kota Kinabalu–Singapore (BKI-SIN) direct service starting Feb 12, 2026, complementing its existing three-times weekly BKI-ICN service to Seoul, South Korea.
