KUCHING: La Promenade officially kicked off the festive season with its most dazzling Christmas Street celebration to date, complete with thousands of real Christmas trees lit up, magical snowfall, weekend light shows, and an expanded social-media competition.
Hock Seng Lee (HSL) marcom lead, Abraham Tiong, said the annual lighting of the real Norfolk pines has become a beloved tradition since 2021.
“With nearly 1,800 Norfolk pine trees lining La Promenade’s main boulevard, lighting them up feels like illuminating an entire Christmas forest. Every year, we try to make the experience bigger and better,” said Tiong.
This year, HSL has more than doubled its lighting budget, returning to classic warm tones, adding vibrant colour accents and installing snowfall machines.
A newly engineered relay system will also debut a synchronised Christmas light show.
“It’s extremely exciting, especially our technical crew designed the circuit relay specially for this,” said senior building operations officer, Clinton Jawa.
The new features were unveiled on Friday with the lighting up ceremony attended by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council Deputy Chairman, Daily Joseph, and Councillor Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok.
Daily praised HSL’s efforts, saying that the council appreciates HSL’s commitment to high-quality public events.
“Christmas Street is one of the highlights of the year. The council and the community truly appreciate HSL’s commitment to high-quality public events,” said Clinton.
To add to the festive event, every Friday to Sunday until Christmas, visitors can enjoy the free ‘Let It Snow’ show’s carolling sessions from 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm, in collaboration with Gereja Methodist Iban Kuching and Samarahan Grace Methodist Church, to take place on December 12 and 20.
The popular Promenade Christmas Market also returns every weekend with food, crafts and family-friendly booths.
Alongside the festive attractions, HSL is launching an upgraded ‘Captured at La Promenade’ content campaign.
“Previously it was just a photo contest. This year, we’re adding an entirely new reels category, each with its own prizes. Participants can submit unlimited entries, and winners get the opportunity to win attractive prizes,” said Tiong.
La Promenade, a HSL’s flagship 200-acre township within a park, between Kuching and Samarahan, is famed for its scenic, tree-lined boulevard, one of the city’s most photographed Christmas spots.
The development by HSL includes high-end residences, La Promenade Mall, HSL Tower and community events such as the HSL Samarahan Marathon and Oktoberfest under the WAK calendar.
With thousands of glowing Christmas trees, snowfall on tropical nights and a festive competition for creative visitors, La Promenade’s Christmas Street promises one of Kuching’s most enchanting year-end experiences yet.
