KUCHING: Proton’s All-New Saga has earned strong praise for its sharper design, spacious cabin and improved fuel efficiency, with the enhancements seen as a significant upgrade from earlier generations.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the improvements were evident the moment he stepped inside the car.

He noted that he owned his first Proton in 1992 and has watched the brand advance “from leaps and bounds”.

“It has improved a lot. You can see the accessories, the whole package.

It has improved a lot,” he said at the launch of the All-New Saga at Supernau Motors Trading Sdn Bhd (Kuching) yesterday. Yap described the model as a strong option for entry-level buyers and families.

“For a first car buyer, I think this is a fantastic first car buyer for families.

It has a lot of space and is also economical.

I think the new engine they were telling you about, so yes, very good,” he said.

He also commended Supernau Motors for standing with Proton through challenging periods.

“They came in at a point in time when Proton was not doing so well.

They have grown, and Proton has grown. “Similar to Sarawak.

We were not looked upon 10 years ago.

Now people look up to us,” he said.

Yap said long-term growth— whether for companies or governments—depends on consistency, trust and support.

“We need to stick with a good product, with a good brand.

As the support increases, you are there to grow with the company, to grow with a bigger company,” he said.

He drew parallels to Sarawak’s economic role within Malaysia, emphasising that the state’s strength contributes to national prosperity.

“Our Premier says if Sarawak is strong, Malaysia is strong.

Because if Sarawak companies do well, they pay taxes to the Federal Government.

So if Sarawak is strong, Malaysia is strong,” he said.

Yap added that Sarawak’s development philosophy focuses on cooperation rather than competition.

“It is not about Sarawak versus the Peninsular.

It is about working together, getting the Federal Government to honour their promises.

We grow, you grow, everybody benefits,” he said.

He said the same principle applies to Proton and its dealers.

“Similar to Supernau.

They win, Proton wins. And in the end, all win,” he said.
