Police seek witnesses after 63-year-old cyclist dies in crash

MIRI: A 63-year-old cyclist was killed in an accident along Jalan Tanjung Lipat near Batu Niah here late Saturday afternoon.

Miri police confirmed they received a report of the fatal incident, which occurred at 5:30 pm.

Initial investigations found that the victim, a local man, had been cycling from the Batu Niah market towards Kampung Tanjung Lipat when he was believed to have been struck by an unidentified vehicle travelling from the opposite direction.

The cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

He urged anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer, Insp. Mohd Faizul Abdul Rahim, at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or by approaching the nearest police station.

Farhan reminded motorists to prioritise responsible and alert driving at all times, and comply with road regulations to safeguard all road users.
