KUCHING: A surprise visit by Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, to AirBorneo’s headquarters today lifted the spirits of staff who have been working around the clock in preparation for the airline’s upcoming launch.

Employees described the visit as an unexpected but timely boost as the team races to complete final preparations for next month’s rollout.

During the visit, Lee said he was encouraged to see many Sarawakians, including former aviation professionals who previously served with major carriers locally and abroad, returning home to lend their expertise to AirBorneo.

“I am truly proud to see Sarawak talents with strong aviation backgrounds coming back from various parts of Malaysia and even abroad to join this mission,” he added.

He also described the workforce as pioneers of the state’s aviation future, noting that their early contributions will be remembered as the airline grows.

In a briefing with AirBorneo’s management, Lee reviewed the final stages of operational readiness, including safety compliance, crew preparation, ground operations, and customer service systems.

He commended the team’s professionalism and reminded them that safety, reliability and service excellence must remain top priorities to build public confidence.

AirBorneo, formerly MASwings and now transitioning under Sarawak’s ownership, is gearing up for its official launch next month, aiming to enhance rural air services, improve intercity connectivity and support development goals under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).

Lee concluded his visit by reaffirming the government’s commitment to working closely with the airline to ensure a smooth and successful launch.
