MIRI: A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a four-wheel-drive vehicle on the Lutong Kuala Baram Road here on Saturday morning.
The collision happened shortly after 10 am as the victim was riding towards the city from Lutong. According to initial police findings, the motorcycle slammed into the back of a 4WD vehicle travelling in the same direction. The impact was fatal. Paramedics confirmed the rider died at the scene.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the 53-year-old driver of the 4WD escaped unhurt and has been assisting investigators. He added that officers are working to establish how the two vehicles came into such close proximity on a straight stretch of road.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

ACP Farhan renewed his call for road users to stay alert and practise safe driving, stressing that a moment’s lapse can cost a life.
