KUCHING: Al-Quran education in Sarawak is set for a major boost following a 3.8-acre land allocation by the state government for the Darul Hana Al-Quran Development Centre (DHQc-MIS).

Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) President, Datuk Misnu Taha, said the allocation reflects the government’s commitment under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to balanced development that includes infrastructure, human capital and Islamic education.

“The land has been entrusted to us, and the responsibility now lies with those appointed to develop it,” he said during the ‘Seminar Wanita Bijak Al-Quran’ event at MAJMA Hall today.

He added that despite initial concerns, MIS continues to support the centre’s development.

“God-willing, we have planned numerous programmes to ensure the development of the Al-Quran in the state is carried out effectively,” he reiterated.

On religious education, Misnu said that MIS will expand its Adult Religious Classes (KAD) programme beyond Kuching to cover the entire state.

“MIS has agreed to extend the KAD programme statewide,” he added.

“I urge all relevant officers to continue and involve anyone interested, as I have seen strong community interest in funeral rites, prayers, and Al-Quran studies when visiting villages.”

Misnu added that MIS plans to expand the programme, with a graduation ceremony to be held in the future for participants who successfully complete the KAD programme.

“I will strive to secure full collaboration with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Sarawak Islamic Skills Institute (IKMAS),” he stressed.

“If the certification is recognised by IKMAS, it will be a significant achievement for us.”
