JTBC drama “Surely Tomorrow” has recorded its highest viewership rating so far by its fourth episode, showing a steady rise since its premiere despite a modest start.

According to Nielsen Korea, reported by entertainment portal Allkpop, the first episode, which aired in early July, posted a nationwide rating of 2.7 per cent among paid households. Ratings increased to the 3 per cent range from the second episode onward. Episode four achieved 3.9 per cent nationwide and 3.7 per cent in the Seoul metropolitan area, marking the series’ best performance to date.

The drama stars Park Seo Joon as Lee Gyeong Do and Won Ji An as Seo Ji Woo. The story follows the two former lovers, who dated twice in their twenties before separating. Years later, they are reunited under awkward circumstances, with Gyeong Do working as a journalist who reported on an adultery case and Ji Woo being the wife of the man involved in the scandal.

Episode four focused on Gyeong Do supporting Ji Woo during a difficult period. After she collapses at home, he helps care for her and confronts her excessive drinking. Drawing from his own past experiences and the support he once received from his mother and close friends, he decides to help Ji Woo regain stability in her life. The episode also reveals Ji Woo’s decision to return to the United Kingdom.

Tension increased when Ji Woo’s former husband appeared at her home without warning and verbally confronted her. The situation escalated until Gyeong Do intervened and openly stated his feelings, marking a turning point in their relationship.

The series has attracted attention for its nostalgic elements, including early-2000s details such as MP3 players, wired earphones, campus settings and the use of Sung Si Kyung’s song “Two People”, Allkpop said.

Won Ji An, appearing in her first leading role and first romantic comedy, has also drawn notice for her portrayal of a character who is outspoken and unconventional, differing from typical portrayals seen in similar dramas.

Allkpop added that at a production press conference on July 4, director Lim Hyun Wook said the script was among his favourites in recent years and expressed confidence in the cast’s ability to deliver both humour and emotional depth.
