LAWAS: Trusan town is set for a major transformation as the state government redevelops it into a modern residential hub and socio-economic centre.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said the redevelopment initiative is strategically planned, with emphasis on providing comfortable housing, upgrading basic infrastructure, and creating new job and investment opportunities there.

According to him, the state government has approved several funding injections to ensure the implementation of key development projects in a planned and effective manner, with the cooperation of major corporations, the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), as well as support from the private sector.

“The state government will fully develop the basic infrastructure, while the housing projects will prioritise residents who still live in Trusan town to ensure that no community is left behind in the development process,” he said during the Jom Singgah Makan Durian Programme at the Trusan Town Hall.

He explained that so far, 15 houses are already in the implementation phase and are expected to be completed soon.

Local residents will be given priority to occupy the new housing units.

He added that the initial development phase involves around 50 housing lots, but that the number may be increased to more than 100 lots if demand grows.

The development area will also be equipped with public facilities such as a field, a multipurpose hall, and recreational spaces to meet the social needs of the local community.

Apart from residential development, the ongoing Northern Coastal Highway Project—including the construction of sturdy, modern bridges—and plans to develop the riverfront area into a Wetland Park will become key elements in supporting environmental sustainability and creating new recreational attractions in Trusan.

The Jom Singgah Makan Durian Programme was enlivened by local residents who took the opportunity to enjoy local durians, in line with Trusan’s reputation as one of the well-known durian-producing areas in northern Sarawak.
