KUCHING: Sarawak Water will carry out planned repair works on a 1100mm diameter water pipeline at Jalan Matang here from 10pm, Sept 4 until noon, Sept 5, to safeguard supply.
The intervention follows technical investigations into a suspected leak on the pipeline, located at the road median along Jalan Matang, according to the statement.
The pipeline is one of Sarawak Water’s main lines supplying treated water to the Bukit Siol Reservoir, which serves Kuching, Petra Jaya and surrounding areas.
Due to restricted working space within the road median, preparation will involve excavation, access for heavy machinery, draining of the pipe, and traffic management, the statement said.
Consumers in Bukit Siol Reservoir Tank, Jalan Demak, Jalan Bako, Petrajaya, Matang (Kubah Ria to Batu 9), Taman Sri Harmoni, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhamad Salahudin, Muara Tebas, Kuching city centre/Kuching Golden Triangle and JBALB may experience low pressure or interruption.
Sarawak Water advised affected consumers to store sufficient water for at least 24 hours before the works begin. Water tankers will be mobilised to affected areas, with priority given to critical facilities.
Supply will be restored gradually once repairs are completed, and consumers may experience temporary discoloured water during the recovery period, with flushing works to follow.
A temporary traffic diversion will be in place from Sept 3 to 12, with affected traffic rerouted via Jalan Matang Bersinar and Jalan Matang Bersinar 3. Motorists are advised to follow temporary signage and drive carefully near the work area.
