KUCHING: A local man was charged in the Sessions Court yesterday (Jan 19) for raping a 16-year-old girl in Lundu last year.
The 30-year-old pleaded not guilty before Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar to the charge framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he may face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning.
According to the charge, he was accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in a village in Lundu at around 6 am on Nov 12, 2025.
During case mention, Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng did not offer any bail to the accused as it was not a bailable offence.
The accused, who was unrepresented by counsel, only nodded in understanding and did not say anything to apply for bail.
The court has scheduled Feb 16 for case management.
The accused was also ordered to be remanded in Puncak Borneo Prison until the case is resolved.
