MIRI: City council officials have moved swiftly to tighten safety controls at the pavilion in Miri Public Park following an accident that left a visitor injured after stepping on a broken wooden plank.

Mayor Adam Yii said the council ordered an immediate and comprehensive inspection of all timber structures in the area as soon as the incident was reported, signalling zero tolerance for lapses in public safety.
He said mitigation measures were implemented without delay to prevent a recurrence and to ensure the park remains safe for public use.
“This prompt response underscores the council’s commitment to maintaining public facilities that are safe, well maintained and user friendly, with the well-being of Miri residents as a top priority,” he told a press conference at the Miri City Council building on Monday.
Yii said the injured individual may submit a claim under the council’s Third Party Public Liability Insurance, subject to compliance with established procedures and policy conditions.
He added that routine monitoring and maintenance of public amenities would be further strengthened to safeguard users and to preserve public confidence in the council’s management of city infrastructure.
