KABONG: A woman who turned down her boyfriend’s marriage proposal was allegedly attacked with a machete and wooden pallet after he flew into a rage at an oil palm plantation here.
The 35-year-old victim had been in a relationship with the 50-year-old unemployed suspect for eight years when the argument erupted at the plantation in Kampung Nyabor last Thursday (Sept 10).
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the woman had rejected the suspect’s request to marry her, telling him she was not ready.
“The suspect later got aggressive and allegedly brandished a machete taken from the boot of his car at her twice, but she managed to evade the attacks.
“He then allegedly struck the victim with a wooden pallet, causing injuries to her left finger, a cut to her right hand and bruising to her back.
“The woman subsequently lodged a police report yesterday (Sept 13) for further action,” he said.
Acting on information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) arrested the suspect by the roadside along Jalan Dato Edward Jerah, Saratok.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to brandishing the machete at the woman twice before striking her with the wooden pallet.
Mathew said the suspect also allegedly admitted threatening to kill the victim if he discovered she was involved with another man.
Investigations found that the woman had declined to marry the suspect because of his hot temper, alleged involvement in drug abuse and lack of stable employment.
A urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Sections 324 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon and criminal intimidation.
