KUCHING: Malaysians should exercise caution against using artificial intelligence (AI) tools carelessly to generate graphics of Jalur Gemilang, as such applications can produce inaccurate results.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said AI applications could generate incorrect information, whether in text, video or graphic form, and urged users to refer to existing laws when using such tools.
“If something generated by AI violates existing law, then we must avoid spreading that content,” he said to reporters at the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition for the 2026 National Malaysia Day Celebrations at Plaza Merdeka here today.
He said global discussions, including among companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI and xAI, were ongoing to introduce more safeguards against AI hallucination and potential risks the technology poses to humans.
Ahead of Hari Malaysia, Fahmi reminded content creators, particularly members of the media, to ensure any AI-generated graphics of the Jalur Gemilang carry the correct 14 points on the star and 14 stripes, with no colour errors, referring to official information provided at the exhibition.
He said enforcement remained largely complaint-based, with the ministry, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and other authorities acting once a report is lodged, though the ministry was also taking a more proactive approach in reminding the public to stay vigilant.
“Just because AI generates an answer doesn’t mean it’s correct — that’s what we call hallucination. Always check your information, check what AI has produced. Don’t use it blindly,” he said.
