MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) moved early to consolidate its political ground in Telang Usan, with state assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau drawing a firm line between delivery and political uncertainty as he defended his three-term record under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Speaking to more than 600 party members, community leaders and supporters at the PBB Telang Usan New Year 2026 gathering, Dennis framed political stability as a prerequisite for development in one of Sarawak’s most remote constituencies.

“This is not about promises. This is about results,” he said, citing infrastructure, utilities, education and economic initiatives implemented since he first took office in 2011.

The event, held in Miri, was attended by Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Dominic Nyurang Ajang, and drew strong representation from PBB’s Women’s Wing, Youth Wing and the 18-28 movement, signalling organisational readiness at branch level.

Dennis anchored his remarks on rural connectivity, pointing to the construction and upgrading of key bridges and rural roads that have opened access to interior settlements and improved economic mobility.

He said electricity coverage has now reached all longhouses and villages in the N.77 Telang Usan constituency through hybrid solar systems, while clean water supply has expanded through new treatment plants and community-based projects.

A new water treatment plant in Long Lama, costing more than RM30 million, is in the planning pipeline.

On healthcare, Dennis said a new Class 5 clinic in Long San is under construction after years of requests, alongside upgrades to staff quarters and community facilities.

Education featured prominently, with Dennis highlighting targeted funding for parent-teacher associations and special state funding secured in 2024 that enabled SMK Long Bedian to produce its first Form Five cohort.

The school recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in its inaugural SPM sitting.

On the economy, Dennis said Telang Usan must move beyond aid-based development.

He revealed plans for a proposed integrated solar project near Long Lama involving an estimated RM2 billion in investment, alongside a community bamboo planting initiative that has drawn applications from nearly 1,000 families.

An investor is considering setting up a bamboo charcoal processing facility in the area.

Dennis also warned against political instability, arguing that frequent changes in leadership would derail long-term planning.

“Development does not happen if representation keeps changing,” he said, drawing a contrast between GPS’ continuity and short-term political experimentation.

Reflecting on resolutions presented by community leaders when he first took office, Dennis said most of the core demands, including infrastructure, utilities, schools and economic opportunities, have now been delivered.

The message to voters was clear.

PBB is positioning continuity and track record as its central political currency in Telang Usan, setting the tone well ahead of any electoral contest.
