MANILA, Philippines: The Philippines has rolled out a 10-year Green Energy Auction (GEA) Programme that will offer at least 25 gigawatts of additional renewable energy capacity through annual competitive auctions starting this year, the country’s Department of Energy (DOE) said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

This scale-up will expand the Philippines’ renewable energy portfolio, strengthen long-term power supply reliability, and support the national targets of 35 per cent renewable energy share by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2040, the DOE said.

In its upcoming auction rounds, the DOE plans to support a broad mix of technologies, including onshore wind, floating solar, rooftop solar, solar paired with battery storage, biomass, geothermal, and hydropower. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
