SIBU: In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch and Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Bandar Sibu today jointly carried out a ‘CNY Warmth for the Homeless’ initiative to extend festive greetings and essential aid to the underpriviledged.
The team included SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie, and JKKK Bandar Sibu Chairman, Kapitan Ngu Ing Huong.
They visited the temporary Transit Centre (TTG) for the homeless persons, where they distributed mandarin oranges, festive food items and beverages to the residents.
The initiative aimed to spread festive cheer and ensure that the homeless community could also experience the warmth and joy of the Lunar New Year celebration.
Stating that CNY is a time of reunion, sharing and compassion, Lau said through this meaningful effort, he hoped to bring encouragement and warmth to those in need, reminding them that they are not forgotten by society.
He also called upon the public to continue supporting and caring for vulnerable groups to build a more inclusive and harmonious community.
The donated items were received by the person in charge, Winnie Wong, who expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the contribution.
She said the supplies would be properly distributed to the residents, helping them celebrate a more meaningful and comfortable festive season.
