KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has issued a stern warning that more individuals are now within his ‘radar’ as part of an uncompromising mission to combat corruption across all government departments and agencies.
His Majesty said corruption is a betrayal of the people’s trust and will not be tolerated in the administration of the country under any circumstances.
“Do not think that the fight against corruption only focuses on a handful of departments, or only on those who give and receive bribes. Be warned that those in the Royal Malaysia Police, the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and many others are also under scrutiny, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
“No matter what rank you hold, as well as agents who act as ‘middlemen’ and suppliers of various equipment, clothing and medical supplies, you too are within the ‘radar’.
“As the proverb goes, ‘siapa makan cili, dia terasa pedas’ (those who are guilty will inevitably feel the
consequences). Do not assume that I am unaware of what is taking place, as I have my own sources of intelligence,” His Majesty said in a statement posted on the Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today.
Sultan Ibrahim said efforts to combat corruption must not be cosmetic or merely rhetorical, stressing that no one is above the law.
His Majesty said that if there are officers who fail to carry out their duties with trust and integrity, transfers should be carried out without delay.
“I have other alternatives. If there are officers who are unable to uphold their responsibilities honestly, give the opportunity to those who are more deserving and clean to carry out those duties,” His Majesty said.
On Feb 19, Sultan Ibrahim, in His Royal Address at the Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, called for corruption to be fought on a large scale, with no one shielded from legal action.
His Majesty said efforts to eradicate corruption must not focus solely on those who receive bribes, but that those who offer bribes, agents or any parties acting in collusion must also be investigated and subjected to firm action. – BERNAMA
