Domestic helper arrested while fleeing with employer’s valuables

MIRI: A 36-year-old Indonesian domestic helper was arrested by police on Monday evening while attempting to flee with valuables allegedly stolen from her employer, following a prompt report lodged by the victim.

The suspect was detained at about 5.30 pm after the employer alerted police to a theft at a residence along Jalan Kampung Luak 3 here.

Officers moved swiftly and intercepted the woman while she was in possession of items believed to belong to the complainant.

Police said the alleged theft resulted in losses estimated at around RM10,000, involving personal valuables taken from the house.

The suspect has been remanded for three days to facilitate further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 381 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft by a clerk or servant and carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a possible fine upon conviction.

Police advised members of the public to immediately report suspected crimes to enable timely action and prevent further losses.
