KUCHING: The Ramadan bazaars organised by the Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) are set to serve not only as commercial hubs but also as platforms to enliven the spirit of the holy month.

These bazaars strengthen community ties and uphold the cherished tradition of breaking fast among the city’s diverse communities.

DBKU said on Wednesday (Feb 18) it was in the final stages of preparations to ensure smooth operations at all bazaar sites under its administration ahead of Ramadan.

The city council said comprehensive arrangements are being carried out, including the installation of canopies, systematic arrangement of stalls and overall logistical coordination to provide a comfortable and orderly environment for traders and visitors throughout the fasting month.

“Three main locations have been designated for this year’s Ramadan bazaars, namely Bazaar Ramadan Satok with 108 trading lots, Bazaar Ramadan Sukma Ria offering 101 lots, and Bazaar Ramadan Semarak with 40 lots.

“Altogether, 249 trading lots are being made available, providing opportunities for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs to generate income while contributing to the local economy,” DBKU said in a social media post.

To ease traffic congestion at Bazaar Ramadan Sukma, DBKU advised visitors to utilise the parking facilities at Dewan Serbaguna Taman Sukma.

The parking arrangement will be in operation from Feb 19 to Mar 19, from 10am to 10pm, in conjunction with the operation of Bazaar Ramadan Taman Sukma.

At the same time, DBKU reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all bazaar sites are well-organised, safe and conducive for the comfort of traders and patrons.

“We urge members of the public to make full use of the facilities provided while maintaining cleanliness and safety throughout the holy month,” it said.
